Gypsy jazz (also known as gypsy swing or hot club jazz) is a style of jazz music often said to have been started by guitarist Jean "Django" Reinhardt  in the 1930s. The genre is attracting a new generation of musicians and fans across the UK and Europe.
Remi Harris is one of the foremost ambassadors of this style and we are delighted to welcome Remi and his successful trio to a “Blues Road” event in Montgomery.
Born in 1988 to a French Mother and English Father, Remi grew up in an extremely creative environment with both of his parents being artists. It was almost a foregone conclusion that Remi would become a musician though when they named him after the 2nd and 3rd notes of the major scale “Do “Re Mi” Fa So La Ti Do”.
Remi has a great appreciation for art and music of all types, he has and continues to study and draw inspiration from many areas of the artistic world, letting it all influence and shape his playing and composing.

“This young guy is seriously good… Harris’ virtuosity is stunning. A player of skill and versatility, he is destined for a bigger stage.” - www.thejazzmann.co.uk

    The great Django Reinhardt

Remi has performed extensively throughout the UK and France, some of these perforances include… Buckingham Palace, BBC Radio 2, Hay-On-Wye Festival, Hereford Cathedral, Brecon Cathedral, Birmingham Town Hall, Le Quecumbar London, Upton Jazz Festival, Bournemouth Opera House (and John Wynn-Jones’s 60th birthday). He has also had his music played on BBC Radio 6, Planet Rock Radio and many other regional radio stations in the UK and Europe.
Some of the artists he has worked with include: John Etheridge, Gary Potter, Dan Cassidy, Alan Barnes, Tina May, Christiaan Van Hemert, Deborah Rose, Ben Holder and Martin Limberger.

“I played with Remi recently… he is a tremendously gifted young player with an awesome command of Gypsy Jazz guitar. Certainly made me buck up!” – John Etheridge www.johnetheridge.com

Some of Remi’s biggest influences include: The Beatles, Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green, Wynton Marsalis, Chet Baker, John Scofield, L.V. Beethoven, Led Zeppelin, Barney Kessel, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Neil Young, Rage Against The Machine, System Of A Down, Clifford Brown, Joe Pass, George Best, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Bobby Fischer, Charlie Christian, Bireli Lagrene, The Rosenberg Trio, Chuck Berry, Vivaldi, Pendulum, Jurassic 5.

“Remi is definitely, in my view one of the most talented British players, if not “THE” most talented of the young generation. He plays gypsy jazz with profound respect and a maturity so rare among young players. I am sure he will go far!” – Godefroy Maruejouls www.mjsguitars.net

“A 60 year old soul trapped in a 20 year old body. With a facility that would be astonishing at any age! I’ve been a part of the NYC studio scene for 30+ years and believe me, players like Remi are few and far between.” – Kenny White www.kennywhite.net
